The Aller-Leinetal is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Buchholz (Aller) , Essel and Schwarmstedt in the Samtgemeinde Schwarmstedt , the communities Hademstorf , Eickeloh , Hodenhagen and the Flecken Ahlden (Aller) in the Samtgemeinde Ahlden and the communities Frankenfeld , Böhme , Häuslingen as well as the city of Rethem (Aller) in the integrated municipality of Rethem (Aller) in the Heidekreis district .

General

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 360 is approximately 1207  hectares . It lies completely within the FFH area “Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker” and for the most part within the EU bird sanctuary “Untere Allerniederung”. The nature reserve consists of numerous sub-areas. These are often the same conservation area surrounded and linked together by this. In the north it borders on the nature reserve " Allerschleifen between Wohlendorf and Hülsen ". Between Rethem (Aller) and Ahlden (Aller) it borders in places on the "Böhmetal" landscape protection area, which partly fell into the scope of the nature conservation ordinance as well as parts of the former landscape protection areas "Bierder Koppel", "Der Reiherhorst bei Ahlden" and "Hohes Leineufer", at Essel it borders on the nature reserve "Ehrenfriedhof Essel" and at Schwarmstedt on the nature reserve "Untere Leine". The area has been under nature protection since August 6, 2020. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Heidekreis.

The nature reserve extends over Aller and Leine in the district of Heidekreis and over the lowest section of the Böhme up to its confluence with the Aller. It places the river courses with their banks and bank margins under protection and includes numerous areas in the lowlands of the rivers. The flowing waters often run in loops through their extensive lowlands. They have flooding underwater vegetation. The lowlands are shaped by the flood dynamics of the rivers and are often close to nature. The areas in the river plains included in the nature reserve are often characterized by species-rich grassland of different degrees of moisture, remains of alluvial forests and, in some cases , silting oxbow lakes . The banks and edges of grasslands are sites of tall herbaceous vegetation . Wet grassland areas are partially sedges - and bins rich and also locations Hochstaudenfluren. In the area of ​​the dunes in the nature reserve there are some areas of dry sand grass .

The area is a habitat for beavers , otters and various bats , including Bechstein's , pond and water bat . The flowing waters are home to wolffish , mud whip , hazel , chub , gudgeon , bitterling , crucian carp , moderlieschen , rudd , tench , burbot , barbel , bream , aland , sea ​​trout , eel , sea and river lamprey . The waters are home to the common pond clam , great pond clam , great river clam , and painter's clam . The grassland areas are home to grasshoppers, blue-winged wasteland insects , red-bodied grasshoppers , western biters and marsh insects .

The nature reserve is often, in conjunction with the landscape protection area, the habitat for the species white stork , black and red kite , corn corn , wagtail and whinchat, which are value-determining species according to the bird protection directive .
