The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 260 is around 126  hectares . The nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker" and the EU bird sanctuary "Untere Allerniederung". In the north it borders directly on the nature reserve " Allerniederung bei Klein Häuslingen ", in the west on the nature reserve " Untere Allerniederung in the district of Verden " and in the south on the nature reserve " Aller-Leinetal ". The area has been under nature protection since February 2, 2004. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Heidekreis.

When the nature reserve was designated, it was initially around 218 hectares, of which 126 hectares were in the Heidekreis district and 92 hectares in the Verden district. The areas in the district of Verden became part of the new nature reserve with the designation of the nature reserve "Untere Allerniederung in the district of Verden" on December 3, 2016.

description

The nature reserve, which lies between Rethem (Aller) and Hülsen , was the first contribution in the Verden district to the establishment of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas . It encompasses the sweeping meander of the Aller , which is the federal waterway in this area , and the adjacent grassland areas that are extensively managed. The grassland, which is flooded when the water levels in the Aller are high, is partially divided by individual trees, groups of trees and hedges . Along the stretches of the unpaved river bank, there are sometimes small-scale deciduous forests, willow bushes and riparian perennials.
