Billy Rose Art Garden

The Billy Rose Art Garden is the sculpture park created by the Japanese / US sculptor Isamu Noguchi on the western slope of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem , Israel . The art garden is named after the impresario and poet Billy Rose (1899–1966).

Design of the art park

From 1960, Isamu Noguchi laid the sculpture park on the slope of the museum grounds and divided the area into different sections with walls made of rough, unprocessed field stones . The art garden was completed in 1965.

He has also designed a zen garden with stone chippings walkways next to which local plants and flowers grow. His garden concept uses different types of stone, but also creates with concrete and water on small squares and rectangular terraces that echo echoes from the museum buildings.

collection

The collection shows works by important sculptors from the 19th century by Auguste Rodin , Émile-Antoine Bourdelle and Aristide Maillol and from the 20th century such as Pablo Picasso , Alexander Archipenko , Jacques Lipchitz , Henry Moore , Germaine Richier , David Smith , Sol LeWitt , Donald Judd , Claes Oldenburg , Magdalena Abakanowicz , Richard Serra , Joel Shapiro from James Turrell . Prominent Israeli sculptors such as Menashe Kadishman , Michael Gross and Ezra Orion are also represented.
