plant
Shapiro is known for his expansive sculptures made of cast iron or bronze (and also wood), which are made of beam-shaped elements - at first glance random - seem to be welded together and unstable. Shapiro developed his formal language in the 1970s when dealing with minimalism . Since the 1980s, the human figure has become a recurring theme for him, which he captures - in a strongly stylized form - mostly in a state of movement or in a pose. Wherever they remind of a certain posture, his sculptures can appeal to the viewer's emotions. Of his more than 20 works in public space, two of his bronzes can be found in Germany: Untitled (1994) in front of Quartier 205, Berlin , and Untitled (1996/99) in the Cologne Sculpture Park . One of his best-known works in public space is the sculpture in front of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC
