description

The nature reserve stretches for around 30 km along the valley of the Lehrde between Limmerberg, southwest of Visselhövede to the Allerdeich before the mouth of the Lehrde into the Aller. It includes the course of the river Lehrde with its bank areas and, above Stemmen, also other areas of the valley and the river's lowland. In some places there are still waters in the lowlands, some of which have arisen from oxbow lakes of the Lehrde. The Lehrde is largely natural as a flowing body of water with flooding water vegetation and is subject to its natural water dynamics. It has been straightened in places between Kettenburg and Stellichte . As soon as it enters the nature reserve north of Kettenburg, the river is initially lined with alder , alluvial forests and swamp forests , before entering areas used as grassland above Stellichte . As a result, grassland and groves that accompany the waterway alternate before forests join the Lehrde valley below Stellichte on the heath circle side. The forests are characterized as swamp forests and moist oak-hornbeam forests . At the edge of the valley, they merge into grove, beech and mixed oak forests. From about the crossing of the Lehrde through Kreisstraße 22, the lowlands of the Lehrde are dominated by grasslands and initially further forests on the side of the Heidekreis. Below the crossing of the Lehrde by the Kreisstraße 30, the Lehrde flows through a lowland with areas used for agriculture as grassland and sometimes also arable land.

The woods that accompany the water are often designed as gallery forests along the Lehrde. The predominant tree species are black alder and ash . The shrub layer is populated by the European eels' cone , common bird cherry , gray willow, blackthorn and hazel , the herb layer is made up of gundermann , corner sedge , rush , chickweed , lady fern , forest ziest , lesser celandine , meadowsweet , ground grass and giant fescue. In places, reed grass forms flat stands.

The grassland areas are subject to different intensities of use. Areas used as hay meadows are of particular importance for nature conservation . The areas in the area of the lower reaches of the Lehrde are flooded during floods. Here, too, the teaching is predominantly accompanied by trees. Small areas of forest are still growing below the crossing through Kreisstraße 30. In addition to the trees that accompany the water, there are also tall herbaceous meadows along the banks . Furthermore, reed beds as well as sedges and rushes are formed in the nature reserve . In marshland areas, small areas of bog forests grow . Furthermore, humid are Heiden with Glockenheide , heather , peat lily , Beak Ried and peat moss and peat moss-Schlenken formed.

The nature reserve is u. a. Habitat of the Green Snaketail as well as otters and beavers and bats Greater mouse-eared , Bechstein's bat and Barbastelle and Daubenton's bat , Natterer's bat , Brandt's bat , whiskered bat , Noctule , Serotine , Pipistrelle , Common Pipistrelle , Soprano pipistrelle and brown long-eared . The reed beds offer grasshopper warbler , marsh warbler , reed warbler and reed bunting a suitable habitat. Furthermore, u. a. Blackcatcher and red-backed killer native. In the teaching are u. a. Brook and river lamprey are native. The area above the crossing of the nature reserve by Autobahn 27 is the feeding habitat of the black stork .
