The Bullensee is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Kirchtimke in the joint municipality of Tarmstedt in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 027 is 32 hectares in size. It is almost completely part of the FFH area "Bullensee, Hemelsmoor". It is bordered to the west, south and east to the conservation area "Upper Wölpe". The " Hemelsmoor " nature reserve is located a little to the east . The area has been a nature reserve since December 16, 1983. The former nature reserve, which was designated as of December 4, 1937, was incorporated into it. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.
The nature reserve is located southeast of Ostertimke in the Stade Geest at the edge of Wörpe lowlands . It protects a drained raised bog in which a lake is embedded. The bog has been cooled down by peat bog and mostly overgrown by a bog forest characterized by birch and pine trees. The former peat cuttings are full of water. In them, raised bog vegetation is growing again.
The eponymous lake is located on the eastern edge of the nature reserve. It cuts into the mineral subsoil in the eastern area. This silts up from the west bank of the lake . The raised bog vegetation is still relatively vital here.
The nature reserve borders on Kreisstraße 111 in the north. Otherwise, it is surrounded by wooded or agricultural areas.
In the south the nature reserve drains to the Wörpe , a tributary of the Wümme , in the north to the Bade, a tributary of the Oste .
