The Wedeholz is a forest area and the name of a nature reserve in the municipality of Kirchlinteln in the district of Verden and in the municipality of Westerwalsede in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) .

Nature reserve

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG LÜ 348 is around 183  hectares in size. Of this, around 169 hectares are in the Verden district and around 14 hectares in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district. The nature reserve is congruent with the FFH area of the same name . The area has been under nature protection since February 1, 2019. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Verden and Rotenburg (Wümme).

The nature reserve lies between Verden (Aller) and Rotenburg (Wümme) . It protects an oak and beech forest area on a flat Geest hill . The forests are predominantly characterized as oak forests with English oak and hornbeam-beech forests with red beech . Douglas fir , spruce and red oak are often added as tree species that are not typical of the location. The forests have a relatively high proportion of old and dead wood . Some old hut forest remains have been preserved. In the north of the protected area, part of the area is designated as a natural forest reserve. In the east of the protected area there is a small transitional and swinging lawn moor with stocks of sedge and cotton grass rich in peat moss. Small-scale pine forests are also formed here.

The nature reserve is a habitat of species of bat Bechstein's bat , greater mouse-eared , Brandt's bat , whiskered bat , Natterer's bat , Noctule , lesser noctule , Daubenton's bat and Serotine . Furthermore, it is habitat among others, owl , red kite , black , non-ferrous , Central and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker , Stock Dove , treecreeper , mourning and spotted flycatchers and has special meaning for different totholzbewohnende beetle species .

District road 11, which divides the area into a northern and a southern area, runs through the nature reserve . In addition, several paths run through the nature reserve.
