The Obere Geesteniederung is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Hipstedt in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 329 is approximately 178  hectares in size. Most of the nature reserve is also designated as an FFH area "Low Geeste and Grove". The nature reserve borders in parts on the nature reserve " Geesteniederung ", with which it forms a biotope network , and is otherwise almost completely surrounded by the landscape protection areas "Obere Geeste" and "Hinzel-Hölzer Bruch", which it partially replaces within the scope of the nature conservation ordinance. The area has been under protection since October 1, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.

The nature reserve is roughly between Bremerhaven and Bremervörde . It places parts of the Geeste lowlands northeast of Hipstedt up to the state border with the Cuxhaven district north of Frelsdorf under protection. The valley is predominantly of wet grassland embossed surfaces, in many cases the reed zones are embedded. In the eastern area of the protected area the Geeste is bordered by alluvial forests of ash and willow , in the western area the river is only occasionally accompanied by woody trees. Parts of the lowland are moored. Here you can find bog forests , which are formed from birch and pine trees , but also swinging lawns and peat bogs with Schnabelried societies. To the south of Heinschenwalde there are several still waters, which are surrounded by moor forests. The forests in the nature reserve have a high proportion of old and dead wood . The grassland areas in the nature reserve are often managed as meadows or pastures with different levels of use.

The Geeste is the habitat of river and brook lamprey as well as the otter , which also uses the Geeste as a walking corridor.
