The Hahnenhorst is a forest area in the Lower Saxony districts of Stade and Rotenburg (Wümme) and a nature reserve in the municipality of Anderlingen in the Selsingen district in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.

Nature reserve

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 339 is about 16  hectares . It is part of the approximately 65 hectare FFH area of ​​the same name . The area has been under nature protection since January 1, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.

The nature reserve is located southwest of Harsefeld in the Zevener Geest . It places the part of the Hahnenhorst in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme), a near-natural forest area with old and dead wood , under protection. The forests are characterized by common oak, oak-hornbeam and alder-ash forests on predominantly moist locations. Depending on the habitat type , the dominant tree species are common oak , hornbeam , ash , black alder and common bird cherry . These are joined by u. a. Field maple , white elm , red beech and bird cherry . In the herb layer , the endangered plant species common sedge , brook avens , four-leaved oneberry , forest sanicle and small valerian occur.

The area is bordered by a road to the west. Otherwise it is almost completely surrounded by agricultural land . To the northeast, the Hahnehorst forest communities join in the area of the Stade district .
