Gotthold Kimmerle

Gotthold Kimmerle (born June 23, 1868 in Spielberg ; † December 30, 1932 ) was a German organist , choir director and composer .

Kimmerle was the son of the senior teacher Martin Kimmerle (1826-1912) and Barbara Nill (1840-1900). From 1889 to 1901 he studied at the Conservatory in Stuttgart. Between 1899 and 1904 he was organist at the Stuttgart Memorial Church , then organist and choirmaster at the Hospital Church .

He was the first choirmaster of the Stuttgart Hymn Choirboys , which he directed from 1900 to 1922. His role models were the famous choirs from Leipzig and Dresden.

His compositional work was dominated by his educational interest. In 1916, Kimmerle published his singing exercises in two volumes for the lower and middle grades of higher and other schools , Volume 1 for grades 3 to 5 and Volume 2 for grades 6 and 7. Polyhymnia appeared three years later . Choir book of the Stuttgart Boys Choir Hymnus . Volume 1 comprises chorales and volume 2 psalms, motets and other sacred chants . His singing school with brief music teaching in three stages for schools and for private use from 1925 followed up on the "singing exercises". His compositions include the setting Ein frischer Mut und Liederlust for four-part choir and piano.

Kimmerle taught as a senior real teacher at the Königin-Katharina-Stift-Gymnasium Stuttgart .
