Great Everstorfer Moor

The Great Everstorfer Moor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon communities of Heidenau and Halvesbostel in the Harburg district and the Tiste and Kalbe communities in the Sittensen district in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 163 is 470  hectares . Of this, 370 hectares are in the Harburg district and 100 hectares in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district. A large part of the nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary "Moore bei Sittensen".

The nature reserve is located south of the A1 between Heidenau and Sittensen . In the north, a section borders directly on the motorway. In the south, the section of the Wilstedt-Zeven-Tostedt railway operated by EVB runs between Zeven and Tostedt .

It is the remainder of a formerly extensive raised bog complex. The bog is partially pitted . In the center of the protected area there are moor areas, the edge areas are predominantly characterized by grassland . There is a forest area in the northwest of the protected area . By placing it under protection, the remaining remains of the moor should be preserved. The same applies to vibrating lawns , wet heaths and sedges that can be found in the transition areas, as well as the swamp forests growing in the protected area .

The moor is being renatured by means of decussing and rewetting measures . In the autumn of 2011, drainage ditches were closed as part of the renaturation measures, natural waters remodeled and new, shallow bog waters created.

The moor area is u. a. drained via the Kalber Bach and the Herwig Canal as well as the Aue and Ramme to the Oste .

The area established by the Nature Conservation Working Group in the Samtgemeinde Tostedt e. V. is under nature protection since May 2nd, 1988. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the districts of Harburg and Rotenburg (Wümme).
