The Bahlburger Bruch is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Winsen (Luhe) and the municipalities of Garstedt and Wulfsen in the joint municipality of Salzhausen in the Harburg district .
geography
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 151 is 42 hectares and is located east of Wulfsen and northeast of Garstedt. It is almost entirely part of the FFH area " Luhe and lower Neetze water system ".
The route of the Wittenberge – Buchholz railway line between Jesteburg and Lüneburg runs through the protected area . The tracks have been partially dismantled.
Protection purpose
It places a deciduous forest - predominantly oak and hornbeam forest - with a well-developed layer of bushes and herbs on fresh sandy soils, as well as alder, ash, floodplain and swamp forests under protection. A relatively large number of old trees and deadwood can be found in the forest.
The nature reserve offers an important habitat for numerous animal species such as birds, mammals (especially bats), reptiles and amphibians such as the fire salamander .
The area has been a nature reserve since July 16, 1987. A new designation is to take place in 2020, as the previous NSG regulation does not formally meet the requirements of the Habitats Directive and must be replaced by a new EU-compliant regulation. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Harburg.
