The Ilmenau-Luhe-Niederung is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Winsen (Luhe) in the Harburg district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 300 is 434 hectares and has existed since December 1, 2014.
Natural space and rivers
The nature reserve is located in the Harburger Elbmarschen natural area . It is a marshland landscape through which the Luhe and Ilmenau rivers flow. Furthermore, trenches and creeks characterize the area.
particularities
In storm surge -Hochwasser in the same which is Ilmenau barrage closed, whereby the Ilmenau and Luhe jam and flooding parts of the reserve. In addition, when the barrage is open, the natural tides influence the area and the flowing waters. Through these floods, large areas of grassland to developed wasteland with Hochstaudenfluren , reeds and Seggenried , coupled with a high water table . This makes the valley one of the last tributary marshes of the Elbe that is still under the influence of the tides . Small organisms in the tidal reeds and the vegetation-free sand, silt and mud areas improve the water quality.
There are also various types of biotopes in the nature reserve, such as B. nutrient-rich wet meadows , floodplain , marsh marigold meadows and willow riparian forests .
The deepening of the Elbe increased the tidal range , which led to increased waterlogging of the area. This wetting increased the proportion of reed beds, vineyards and tall herbaceous meadows, which today characterize the area's worth of protection.
Protection purpose
To be protected from all the tidal rivers, the freshwater Watts and extensively used wet meadows of the valley with partly consisted endangered species such as the white stork , lapwing , marsh harrier , corncrake , Savi's Warbler , Sedge Warbler , Common Snipe , beaver , otter or river and sea lamprey .
The protected water system is of particular importance for the otter, as it connects the otter occurrences in the Elbe and Ilmenau.
Driving on the Luhe without stepping on the bank and using the Ilmenau Canal as a federal waterway are still permitted.
