The birch-oak forest near Sangenstedt is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Winsen (Luhe) in the Harburg district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 350 is about 37  hectares . It is almost congruent with the 36.07 hectare FFH area of ​​the same name . The area has been under nature protection since March 1, 2019. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Harburg.

The nature reserve is located directly north of the district road 87 between the Winsen districts of Borstel and Sangenstedt . It protects a near-natural mixed oak forest on dry to moist sandy soils on the edge of the Geest in the transition area to the Elbmarsch . The forest, which is characterized as a birch-oak forest, is characterized by a high proportion of oak with pedunculate oak as the dominant tree species. Coniferous forests of pine and small areas and spruce can be found only here. In the north, an area with extensively used wet grassland protrudes into the forest.

The area is habitat and a. for red kite , middle woodpecker , the fringed bat and little noctule bat as well as reptiles like the forest lizard . The grassland area that extends into the forest is of great importance for the biodiversity in the area.

Individual paths run through the nature reserve, from which it can be experienced. The nature reserve is mainly surrounded on three sides by agricultural land . To the south it borders on county road 87, which in turn is followed by further forest areas. In the south-west it is also bordered by a cemetery and the locality of Borstel.
