Borstel has been part of the district town of Winsen (Luhe) in the Harburg district in Lower Saxony since 1972, with a population of 2,526 (as of December 31, 2017; 2014: 2,359; 2011: 2,251). The place is east of the core area of ​​Winsen on the K 84 , which leads from Winsen to Handorf in the joint municipality of Bardowick in the district of Lüneburg . Finds in Borstel area testify that people were already settled here 8000 years before Christ. However, Borstel was first mentioned in a document in 1158 in the files of the Bardowick monastery. On July 1, 1972 Borstel was incorporated into the district town of Winsen (Luhe).
