Hoopte is a district of the city of Winsen (Luhe) in the Harburg district in Lower Saxony and is located on the far northwestern edge of the city, directly on the Elbe , which forms the state border with Hamburg here.

history

At the current ferry connection between Hoopte and Zollenspieker, a ford over the Elbe had existed since at least 1260 , so that the place was conveniently located on a trade route . The first written mention of Hooptes goes back to 1291. In documents from the 12th century, the area was described as "always uninhabitable and undeveloped". It was not until the Thirty Years' War that the Hoopter Elbe section was completely surrounded by dikes and thus finally made habitable and manageable. In the 17th century the place was temporarily occupied by the Danish . During this time the Hoopter Schanze, a military defense system, was built on today's wing dike between the Elbe and Ilmenau . Parts of Napoleon's army crossed the Elbe here on their way back from Russia in 1813 .

On July 1, 1972, Hoopte was incorporated into the district town of Winsen (Luhe).
