The Kauers Wittmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Wistedt in the Tostedt municipality in the Harburg district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 097 is around 34 hectares and almost congruent with the 33.36 hectare FFH area of the same name . The area has been a nature reserve since June 16, 1984. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Harburg.
The nature reserve is located southwest of Wistedt and borders in the north on the B 75 and the residential development of Wistedt. Here is a former sand pit in the nature reserve, which is otherwise a small marsh area at the edge of the Oste lowland sloping Geest is under protection included. The protected area is mainly of peat vegetation such as moist peat Heide with Glockenheide , Moor Lilie , gentian , White beak Ried and various peat moss , Gagel- and Weiden bushes and swamp forests coined from birch and pine. It is also home to the sphagnum orchid, which is highly endangered in Lower Saxony. On drier sites are small areas neglected grasslands and sandy heathland with heather to find. In the former sand pit there are shallow pools . Pioneer vegetation with marsh bear moss settles here . In the nature reserve are u. a. Common adder and blue gentian .
In particular, areas in the central part of the nature reserve are largely used extensively as grassland . They are the habitat of various grasshoppers , butterflies and birds .
The area is drained through several ditches to the Oste.
