The West Borchelsmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Rotenburg (Wümme) and the municipality of Gyhum in the joint municipality of Zeven in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 289 is 125 hectares in size. Most of it is part of the FFH area “Wiestetal, Glindbusch, Borchelsmoor”. In the north-west it borders directly on a part of the “ Glindbusch ” nature reserve .
The nature reserve is located near Mulmshorn, northeast of federal highway 71 and east of the Bremervörde – Walsrode railway line , the section of which Bremervörde – Rotenburg (Wümme) is still used for freight traffic. It is the rest of the Borchelsmoor, a formerly extensive raised bog area. The mostly drained moorland has been changed by numerous peat cuttings. Pipe grass , birch bog and birch quarry forests and Schlenken can be found in the reserve . In the peripheral areas of the nature reserve, especially in the north and south, there is mostly extensively used moist grassland . The moorland is to be renatured by rewetting .
The moor area is about ditches u. a. to the Glindbach and Weidenbach, tributaries of the Wieste which flows into the Wümme at Ottersberg , drained.
The area has been a nature reserve since October 16, 2010. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.
