The Veerseniederung is a nature reserve in the municipality of Scheeßel and the municipalities of Brockel and Hemslingen in the joint municipality of Bothel in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district .

General

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 299 is around 442  hectares . Most of it is part of the FFH area “Wümmeniederung”. In the southeast it borders the nature reserve " Hemslinger Moor " as well as to the conservation area "Deepener juniper area" and to the west by the nature reserve " Wümmeniederung with Rodau, Wiedau and Trochelbach ". Parts of the nature reserve "Deepener Wacholdergebiet" were included in the nature reserve. The area has been under protection since August 15, 2014. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Rotenburg (Wümme) district.

The nature reserve is northeast of Rotenburg (Wümme) and southeast of Scheeßel. It protects the lowland of the Veerse from the border with the Heidekreis district to the federal highway 75 between Rotenburg (Wümme) and Scheeßel, a little above the confluence of the Veerse into the Wümme . The lowland is characterized by grassland areas as well as reed beds , sedges and swamps . The Veerse flows through the lowlands as a near-natural flowing water with flooding water vegetation. The course of the river meanders in the lowlands for long stretches . It is accompanied by a border of alder, willow, ash and occasional oaks as well as tall herbaceous corridors . The grasslands are differently humid and are used differently. In places the lowland is also used for arable farming. Furthermore, smaller alluvial and swamp forests as well as peat forest parcels can be found within the nature reserve.

The nature reserve is the habitat of species-rich flora and fauna. So here is u. a. the otter native, which also uses the lowland as a walking corridor. Furthermore, z. B. pond bat and dragonflies Green Snaketail and Green Darner home. The Veerse is home to the sea , river and brook lamprey , loach , salmon , bullhead , sea ​​trout and minnow .

The nature reserve borders predominantly on agricultural areas and in places on wooded areas. It is crossed only a few places of transport routes, including the west of the railway line between Bremen and Hamburg as well as some public roads and farm roads .
