KG location

The exact age of the tower is not known. During the renovation work in 2004, the engraved year 1829 was found, which is in line with tradition. At the height of the tower, according to the Franziszeischem cadastre , the Triesting branched out in 1820 into two runs (forming an island that was not used for commercial or industrial purposes), which reunited after about 500 meters. From the northern, the original course of the river, the wheels of the Sartory factory (from 1847: Neufeld factory) were driven via additional canals; the southern course, part of today's Triesting bed, served as a relief channel to regulate the flow of water to the factories. When the water level rose, water flowed from the northern arm into the opening at the base of the tower and operated a water wheel mounted in it. This made a bell in the roof of the tower ring. So it was known that the weir locks at the relief channel had to be opened. A flooding of the Sartory / Neufeld factory premises or damage to the machines could thus be avoided more quickly than in previous years.

Remarks

  1. ^ The statement made in Schilder: Berndorf - Past and Present , p. 130 1911/12: Workers' housing estate in "Vierhaus" should refer to the monograph Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik Arthur Krupp AG (Reisser, Berndorf / Vienna 1926, ÖNB ). Since Rieck mentions this work as taken into account in his dissertation, if the statement had been correct, he would have included it in the building age plan.
