Johannes-Wolfgang Neugebauer

Johannes-Wolfgang Neugebauer (born October 28, 1949 in Klosterneuburg ; † August 15, 2002 ) was an Austrian prehistorian .

Life

Neugebauer studied prehistory and early history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1973. In 1987 he was awarded the Lower Austrian Science Prize . In 1988 he completed his habilitation with the topic “Die Nkropole F von Gemeinlebarn, Lower Austria. Investigations into burial customs and grave robbery in the late Early Bronze Age in Lower Austria south of the Danube between Enns and Vienna Woods ”. He was a research assistant at the Federal Monuments Office (Department for Ground Monument Preservation) and supervised numerous large excavation projects. In 1993 he founded the prehistoric museum in Nussdorf ob der Traisen, which he directed until his death. From 1998 he was an associate professor at the University of Vienna. He is the author of numerous scientific and popular works.

He was married to the prehistorian Christine Neugebauer-Maresch .
