The Lower Allerniederung in the district of Verden is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon town of Verden (Aller) and the communities of Dörverden and Kirchlinteln in the district of Verden .

General

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG LÜ 306 is around 1,064  hectares in size. It includes parts of the FFH area "Aller (with Barnbruch), lower Leine, lower Oker" and the EU bird sanctuary "Untere Allerniederung". The area has been under protection since December 3, 2016. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Verden.

The nature reserve extends along the Aller from the border with the Heidekreis district to the confluence of the Aller with the Weser . It includes the course of the Aller along its entire length. To the northwest, west and south of Verden (Aller), larger areas of the river lowlands are designated as nature reserves, as well as other lowland areas north of the west and between Otersen and Hülsen . Large parts of the Allerniederung in the district of Verden were designated as part of the protected area designation as approximately 773 hectares of landscape protection area "Lower Allerniederung in the district of Verden". Both protected areas form a biotope network .

The 92 hectare part of the nature reserve “ Allerschleifen between Wohlendorf and Hülsen ”, which is located in the district of Verden, has merged into the nature reserve “Untere Allerniederung in the district of Verden”. Furthermore, the approximately 26 hectare nature reserve " Eisseler Teiche " , located northwest of Verden (Aller), has merged into the nature reserve. The “Steinkuhle” nature reserve, which is around 140 hectares south of Verden (Aller) in the floodplain of the Aller, has also been canceled. The part of the former landscape protection area in the city of Verden (Aller) became part of the nature reserve “Untere Allerniederung im Landkreis Verden”, the part in the municipality of Dörverden became part of the landscape protection area “Untere Allerniederung im Landkreis Verden”. The same applies to part of the “Dörverdener Wiesen und Barnstedter See” nature reserve. The part to the south-east of Barnstedt between the Aller and Kreisstraße 14 has become part of the nature reserve and part of the landscape protection area.

The nature reserve borders at Dauelsen on the landscape protection area " Sachsenhain mit Umgebung" and in the area of ​​the confluence of the Aller into the Weser on the landscape protection area "Weserniederung between canal mouth at Eissel and Clüverswerder".

The nature reserve includes several areas in the floodplain area of ​​the Aller. These are predominantly characterized by diverse and species-rich grassland with flood troughs and channels. In places, small islands of wood are interspersed as remains of natural alluvial forests . Added bayous and backwaters of the Aller and other standing water with floating aquatic vegetation , Laichkraut- and frogbit companies and well-developed silting svegetation. The Mühlensee, north of Hülsen and south-east of the west, as a former Allerschleife, and the still water in the Bunter Esch south-east of Barnstedt are cut off from the natural water dynamics of the Aller by a dike .

The Aller has flowing underwater vegetation. The river is often of Auengebüschen from alder , ash and white willow and Hochstaudenfluren accompanied. The trees have a high proportion of old and dead wood .

The Aller with its backwaters is the habitat of otters and beavers . The pond bat and the great mouse-eared bat as well as the green mermaid are also native here. The Aller and its tributaries are home to wolffish , bullhead , bitterling , mud whip , river and sea ​​lamprey . The Allerniederung is the habitat of white stork , black and red kite , rook , cuckoo , corncrake , lapwing , brown and bluethroat , wagtail , skylark , marsh warbler and pond warbler , reed warbler , blackcap and meadow pipit , all of which breed in the Allerniederung area. Also grebes and tufted duck are native. Other duck birds have been recorded as guest birds , including wigeon , gadfly , teal , shoveler , song and pygmy swan . The white-tailed eagle is also native to the nature reserve or visits it to forage. In the autumn and winter months the Allerniederung is an important resting area for migratory birds.

The nature reserve borders mainly on agricultural areas. It is only crossed by two streets in Verden (Aller) and the Wunstorf – Bremen railway line. In the west, a passenger crosses the Aller.
