The bog areas, which have been partially cooled by peat extraction, are characterized by wet heaths , transitional bogs and swinging lawns as well as bog forest areas with birch and pine trees .
In the southern “Black Moor near Zahrensen” there are several dystrophic still waters . This part of the nature reserve is mainly characterized by sandy heaths with forest areas, but also wet grassland .
The development of both sub-areas is to be promoted through waterlogging , the extensification of grassland use and the conversion of arable land into grassland. Furthermore, the regular de-cussing of the open moor and heather areas as well as the removal of non-local plants and woody species is planned.
Some of the public roads in the southern area were given up as part of the designation as a nature reserve. Two through the reserve runs rural roads remain as a running on the northern edge Reitweg received.
The “Seemoor” is drained via a ditch to the Osterweder Bach, which flows a little further north through the nature reserve “ Moor bei Osterwede ” before it flows into the Ruschwede.
