The mound heather near Langeloh is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Schneverdingen in the Heidekreis district .

location

The nature reserve is located south of Schneverdingen in the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. It puts a remnant of the formerly dominating heathland under protection. In the west of the nature reserve there is a partially silted up heather slat that extends beyond the border of the reserve. The birches and pines growing on the heather are pushed back from time to time by maintenance measures in order to favor the growth of the heather vegetation.

Within the nature reserve there are numerous barrows that make the area a culturally and historically valuable reserve. The Bronze Age burial mounds are divided into two groups on sandy elevations. Some of them have ring-shaped trenches with marks from former stone wreaths. Small round or elongated elevations were found on the northern edge of the burial ground. According to Assendorp, these can be interpreted as grave markings in an Iron Age urn field.

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG LÜ 014 is 27.5  hectares in size. It has been under nature protection since November 16, 1967. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Heidekreis.
