The Riensheide with Stichter See and Sägenmoor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Neuenkirchen and the city of Soltau in the Heidekreis district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 298 is around 250 hectares and is located in the source areas of Bomlitz and Warnau . It is largely from the conservation area surrounded "Riensheide". The approximately 140 hectare FFH area "Riensheide" is part of the nature reserve. The area has been under protection since January 30, 2014. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Heidekreis.

The nature reserve , which consists of three parts - the Riensheide, the Stichter See and the Sägenmoor - is located south of Neuenkirchen between Visselhövede and Soltau in the south of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park in a predominantly wooded area. The areas are characterized by wet and dry heathland , in peripheral areas partly also sandy heather, swinging lawns and transitional moors, as well as birch and pine forests on wet and dry locations as well as moorland and swamp forests . Dystrophic still waters can be found in all sub-areas . Most of them were created during the Glacial Vistula as wind blow-out hollows ( Schlatts ) over water-retaining ground moraine from the Glacial Saale .

The forest areas in the nature reserve have a high proportion of old and dead wood . Non-local plants and woody species such as spruce and late blooming bird cherries should be removed in the long term.

The nature reserve is the habitat for numerous birds , including red-backed killer , green woodpecker , little grebe , woodlark , woodcock and crane, as well as black grouse , amphibians and reptiles , including moor frogs , adder , smooth snakes and sand lizards . Numerous, partly endangered plant species are found here, including Boston fern , rosemary and bell heather , bilberry , bog lily , marsh Calla , Sundew , lycopodiella inundata , thread rush , German deergrass , knotweed pondweed and white beak-sedge . On the sandy heaths are dwarf shrub heath with heather , gorse and juniper to find.

The area is partly used for forestry and tourism or for local recreation. You can swim on the north bank of the Stichter See and enter the still waters of Stichter See and Schwarzer Dreck for ice skating in winter.
