Schmarbeck is a part of the municipality of Faßberg in the district of Celle . It is located in the north of the Südheide Nature Park in the Lüneburg Heath . This also includes the Oberohe and Niederohe residential areas .

history

In a document from the year 1004, the Heide-Bach Schmarbeck is referred to as Marcbik . Duke Bernhard of Saxony left a country complex to the St. Michael monastery in Lüneburg for silver church utensils weighing 513 pounds, which his father Hermann had given and which he took back with the consent of Abbot Rigdag (from Kloster Berge near Magdeburg ). the curtis Gerdau (ge) .

The Schmarbeck was an important border point for the clarification of property rights. Schmar-Beck is therefore the word meaning for Grenz-Bach . A second meaning of the name can also be Schmar (len) -Beck , the brook and the alders .

In 1060 the Schmarbeck was mentioned again in a document. It was about the reorganization of the so-called Holzmark border of the Verden church. According to a document from 1197, the Church of St. Willehadi in Bremen sold the goods to Wardböhmen, Bleckmar, Hasselhorst and Schmarbeck ( Smerebike ) to the Walsrode monastery , as these goods were of little use due to their remoteness.

Before the earliest mention of the Diershof in Schmarbeck around 1450, nothing is recorded about a rural settlement. In 1563 the Meyerhof belonged to a Laurenz Meiger. The Wichtendahlshof belonged to Meinecke Wichtendahl in 1563. In 1563 the Solenhof belonged to a Helmcke Soele.

From 1852 to 1973 Schmarbeck was an independent municipality. Ernst Günther Kuhlmann was the last mayor of the community of Schmarbeck.

On January 1, 1973, Schmarbeck was incorporated into Poitzen as part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony and ceased to exist as an independent municipality.

On January 1, 1977, the formerly independent municipality of Poitzen was incorporated into Faßberg.

The small town of Schmarbeck-Grube lies between Schmarbeck and Gerdehaus. A few years ago, gravel was extracted from the large pit that can be found there. However, there has been no work there for a long time. The place has ten houses and an estimated 20-25 inhabitants.

politics

Carsten Bubke has been the mayor of Schmarbeck since 2016. Until then, Carl-Wilhelm Kuhlmann (SPD) was in this office.

Culture and sights

The old rural character of the place has largely been preserved. There are still Lower Saxony houses , staircase warehouses and thatched Heidschnucken stables.
