Poitzen is part of the Lower Saxon community of Faßberg in the district of Celle in the Lüneburg Heath .
geography
The place is traversed by the Oertze in a north-south direction, in the same direction the L240 crosses the place. The districts of Winterhoff , Hankenbostel and Gerdehaus belong to Poitzen .
history
The village was first mentioned in a document around 1300 and has changed little over the centuries. The Hemmehof and the Sebandshof are among the oldest farms in Poitzen. Both appear in the registers from 1563, the year of the large inventory of the Celler Land and its farms.
In 1910 the small railway line to Munster (Örtze) was led through Poitzen, but this did not lead to the hoped-for upswing of the place. Only after the Second World War did the district change slightly due to new arrivals. Around 220 people live in the village, which is mainly characterized by tourism in addition to agriculture. The Örtze flows in a north-south direction through Poitzen.
On January 1, 1973, the community of Schmarbeck was incorporated. On January 1, 1977, the formerly independent municipality of Poitzen was incorporated into Faßberg as part of the Lower Saxony regional and administrative reform.
