Maria-Luise Princess of Hanover and Cumberland , Royal Princess of Great Britain and Ireland , Duchess of Braunschweig and Lüneburg (full name Marie Louise Victoria Caroline Amalie Alexandra Augusta Friederike ; * October 11, 1879 in Gmunden , Austria-Hungary ; † January 31, 1948 in the Imperial Abbey of Salem ) was the wife of Prince Maximilian von Baden .
Life
Maria-Luise was the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Cumberland , (1845–1923) and his wife Princess Thyra of Denmark (1853–1933), the youngest daughter of King Christian IX. and his wife Louise von Hessen .
She married Prince Maximilian von Baden (1867–1929), son of the Prussian general and younger brother of Grand Duke Friedrich I , Prince Wilhelm of Baden (1829–1897) and his wife, Duchess Maria von , on July 10, 1900 in Gmunden (Austria) Leuchtenberg . Max von Baden was homosexual, but for dynastic reasons he decided to live as a husband and father. The marriage had two children:
- Marie Alexandra Thyra Viktoria Luise Carola Hilda (1902–1944 in an air raid)
- ⚭ 1924 Wolfgang Prince of Hesse
- Berthold Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst August Heinrich Karl (1906–1963)
- ⚭ 1931 Theodora Princess of Greece and Denmark
- She died in late January 1948 at the age of 68.
