Wilhelm of Hesse
Wilhelm von Hessen (born December 24, 1787 in Biebrich , † September 5, 1867 in Copenhagen ) was titular Landgrave of Hessen-Kassel from the Hesse-Rumpenheim sideline and governor of Copenhagen .
Life
Wilhelm was the eldest son of the titular Landgrave Friedrich III. von Hessen-Kassel-Rumpenheim (1747–1837) from his marriage to Karoline Polyxene von Nassau-Usingen (1762–1823), daughter of Prince Karl Wilhelm von Nassau-Usingen.
In 1837, the prince inherited the title of landgrave from his father and, together with his siblings, he inherited Rumpenheim Castle . According to the regulations of his father, the tradition of the “Rumpenheimer Family Days” began under Wilhelm, at which the family met every two years for a meeting at the castle. This became important because a large part of the European monarchs of the 19th and 20th centuries were among Wilhelm's descendants.
Wilhelm was initially Kurhessischer Infantry General and owner of the second Hessian Infantry Regiment, later General à la suite in Danish services and governor of Copenhagen. After the unsuitable descendants of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm I were excluded from the succession in Hessen-Kassel, Wilhelm became presumptive heir to the throne in Hessen-Kassel.
progeny
On November 10, 1810, Wilhelm married Princess Louise Charlotte of Denmark (1789–1864), daughter of the Danish Hereditary Prince Friedrich, at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen . The marriage had six children:
