Louise Charlotte of Denmark (born October 30, 1789 in Christiansborg Palace ; † March 28, 1864 ibid) was a princess of Denmark and, by marriage, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel .

Life

Charlotte was the youngest daughter of the Hereditary Prince Friedrich of Denmark (1753-1805) from his marriage to Sophie Friederike (1758-1794), daughter of Duke Ludwig of Mecklenburg . This made her a granddaughter of the Danish King Frederick V and a sister of Christian VIII of Denmark. On November 10, 1810, she married Landgrave Wilhelm von Hessen-Kassel-Rumpenheim (1787–1867) at Amalienborg Palace .

On July 18, 1851 in Copenhagen, in the presence of her brother Friedrich Ferdinand (1792–1863) and the Danish Foreign and Justice Minister , Charlotte renounced all claims to the throne in Denmark in favor of her daughter Luise . It was the link between the old Danish royal line, which went out in 1863 with her nephew Friedrich VII in the male line, and the new line from the house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, which is still in office today . According to the London Protocol of 1852, the Danish crown went to Christian IX in 1863 . the husband of her daughter Luise. Her son Friedrich Wilhelm von Hessen (1820-1884) had also waived his claims to the Danish crown in 1851.
