Ditmar Jakobs (born August 28, 1953 in Oberhausen ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

In the club

Jakobs played as a midfielder and defender, mostly in the role of the classic pre-stopper , in 537 games from 1971 to 1990 for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , Tennis Borussia Berlin , MSV Duisburg and Hamburger SV .

Jakobs made his debut in the 1st Bundesliga on matchday 30 of the 1971/72 season in a 5-2 home win against Hertha BSC . Rot-Weiß Oberhausen coach Günter Brocker let his midfielder appear right from the start, whereby the then 18-year-old used his chance to assist and received good criticism. On the following days he helped his team to stay close by scoring more points. In the following year , Jakobs became a fixture among the "clover leaves". As the youngest in the squad, he never missed a game of his team and scored twelve goals, making him by far the best scorer of his team. But even he couldn't prevent RWO from relegating . Jakobs stayed in Oberhausen for another year before he switched to Tennis Borussia Berlin on September 9, 1974, but after the 1974/75 season was over , he was relegated to the 2nd division , where he was immediately promoted to the German football club. But also in 1976/77 TeBe missed relegation. Jakobs then moved to MSV Duisburg, where he was finally repurposed as a defender. After two years, Hamburger SV secured the services of the defensive all-rounder. In the following ten years Jakobs was an integral part of the team, a regular regular and always played more than 28 league games. His most successful time as a professional came with the Hanseatic League. In 1982 and 1983 HSV became German champions , and four years later the club won the DFB Cup in 1987 . However, the team was able to record the greatest success in 1983. With players such as Uli Stein , Manfred Kaltz , Felix Magath , Jimmy Hartwig , Horst Hrubesch and Jürgen Milewski in the squad, the team achieved impressive results in the competition for the European Cup . With successes against BFC Dynamo , Olympiacos , Dynamo Kiev and Real Sociedad , coach Ernst Happel's team reached the final of the most important European club competition. Jakobs played in every HSV encounter and was also called up in the starting eleven in the final on May 25, 1983 against Juventus Turin . HSV won 1-0 and was able to hold the coveted trophy in their hands. After this success Jakobs played with the Hamburgers in the no man's land of the table.

Jakob's career ended abruptly on September 20, 1989 in the Bundesliga home game of HSV against Werder Bremen . During the spectacular defense of a shot on goal, Jakobs slipped into the goal and caught on a defective snap hook on the goal hanger. Only after 20 minutes could he be released from this situation by the Hamburg team doctor cutting the snap hook from his back with a scalpel. In the process, nerve tracts near the spine were cut. Jakobs was then no longer able to work as a footballer due to the back injury he suffered and is still suffering from the injuries to this day.

National team

With the national team Jakobs took part in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and became vice world champion. He played a total of 20 international matches for the DFB between 1980 and 1986 .

The defensive player made his debut on May 13, 1980 when he was substituted on for Hans-Peter Briegel by the then national coach Jupp Derwall in a 3-1 home win against Poland in the 73rd minute . Jakobs then had to wait four years for his next appearance in the DFB dress. After the German team performed disappointingly at the European Championship in 1984 , the new team boss Franz Beckenbauer let him start on September 12, 1984 in the encounter with Argentina . In the same game, the defender scored his only goal for the Germany selection. From then on he was regularly used and appointed to the squad for the 1986 World Cup. There Jakobs was used in six out of seven possible games. The 2-3 final defeat against Argentina was his last encounter for Germany.
