Bernd Wehmeyer (born June 6, 1952 in Herford ) is a former German soccer player . He completed 208 games during his Bundesliga career. Since 1998 he has been the club manager at Hamburger SV .

Career

In the early years of his career he played in the 1971/72 season for Arminia Bielefeld (two games) and in the years 1973 to 1976 for Hannover 96 (23 games) in the top German division.

Due to his fast and technical style of playing he became known in professional circles under the nickname "Fummel".

Wehmeyer celebrated his greatest successes at Hamburger SV , for whom he played in a total of 183 games in the 1st Bundesliga from 1978 to 1985 and scored 10 goals. With Hamburger SV, he won three German championships (1979, 1982 and 1983) and the European Cup (1983). Wehmeyer was active a total of 13 times for the Olympic team from 1983 to 1984 .

From 1995 to 1998 Bernd Wehmeyer was a manager at Hamburger SV (today's designation: sports director) under President Uwe Seeler, and has been the club manager there since 1998. At the beginning of October 2011 he suffered a heart attack while jogging.
