Bülent Ataman (born June 19, 1974 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper .

Career

Ataman started club football in the youth of Trabzon Beldespor . In 1994 he was promoted to the then third division as a professional player. He also managed a little later to fight for the goalkeeper position.

After his shown performances for Beldespor, several teams in the top leagues became aware of him. The then second division Erzurumspor reacted the fastest and secured the services of the young talent. After only a year, Beşiktaş Istanbul, a very large association, became interested in Ataman. So the change came about in the summer of 1996. His debut at Beşiktaş went very badly and heralded the end of his time for this club. In the TSYD Cup game on July 18, 1997 against first rival Galatasaray Istanbul Ataman ran in the starting XI . In this game he conceded two goals within two minutes in the first quarter of the game from Galatasaray striker Adrian Ilie . On top of that, he received a red card at the beginning of the second half. His team finished the game with 10 men and experienced one of the bitterest defeats in the club's history with their 6-0 defeat. After this game, Ataman was portrayed as the main responsible for this bitter defeat. His coach John Toshack relied on the other two goalkeepers Marijan Mrmić and Fevzi Tuncay for the rest of the season .

For the winter break of the 1997/98 season Ataman left Beşiktaş after a year and a half and moved to the second division club Düzcespor . At this club, however, he only stayed until the end of the season and then moved within the league to Göztepe Izmir . Here he and his team achieved the playoff win in his first season and thus promotion to the Süper Lig . Ataman was behind Ramazan Silin during this season and played seven league games over the entire season. After the first division promotion, Silin left Göztepe. Instead, Richard Kingson was signed . Ataman played almost alternately with Kingson in the position of the goalkeeper. After the club missed relegation at the end of the season and Kingson left the club, Ataman rose to the undisputed goalkeeper. At the end of the season he and his team became champions of the TFF 1st Lig and thus achieved direct promotion back to the Süper Lig.

After the promotion to the Süper Lig with Göztepe Ataman was loaned to the first division Trabzonspor . At this club he fought for the goalkeeper post with the two other goalkeepers Metin Aktaş and Murat Yiğiter . While Yiğiter was quickly established as the third goalkeeper, Ataman completed twelve league games. Aktaş had the most league appearances with 23 league games. A new goalkeeper was signed for the new season, Michael Petkovic , and Ataman's loan contract was not extended. In the summer of 2003 he returned to Göztepe and played here as a regular goalkeeper for most of the season. After the club got into financial difficulties, the club rose at the end of the season. As a result, the club disbanded and most of the players were released.

Ataman then moved to the second division Vestel Manisaspor . Here the club tried to build a strong team with the main sponsor Vestel and to move up to the Süper Lig as quickly as possible. Mustafa Denizli was hired as a coach . Under this coach, Ataman completed most of the games in the first season. After the season goal was missed, Levent replaced Eriş Denizli as head coach. Under this coach, the club finished the second division season 2004/05 as runner-up and rose. Ataman was involved in this success as a regular goalkeeper. In the Süper Lig he played the first season as a goalkeeper. In the second first division season Manisaspor signed Fevzi Tuncay . With this goalkeeper Ataman alternated several times as a regular goalkeeper. Tuncay left Manisaspor after just one season. In the meantime, the third goalkeeper Ufuk Ceylan made developments and replaced Ataman as regular goalkeeper over the course of the season. Since the club failed to stay up in the summer of 2008, Ataman left Manisaspor after five years.

After leaving Manisaspor, he moved to the neighboring province of Altay Izmir . Here he stayed only half a season and then moved within the league to Kardemir Karabükspor . In his first season he had against the two other goalkeepers Kazım Sarı and Süleyman Küçük and had the fewest appearances with five league appearances. The second season he quickly won the goalkeeper post. At the end of the season he celebrated the championship of the TFF 1st Lig with his team and thus the direct promotion to the Süper Lig. After the promotion, a foreign goalkeeper was committed with Vjekoslav Tomić . This ousted Ataman from the regular goalkeeper post. After Ataman remained as a substitute keeper at the club until the end of the season, he was hired at the end of the season at the second division Karşıyaka SK .

In the summer of 2012 he then moved to the TFF 2nd Lig at Fethiyespor . In the next winter break he dissolved his contract with Fethiyespor and ended his playing career.
