Karl Johann Phenomenon von Alvensleben (born March 18, 1807 in Berlin , † April 16, 1877 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Karl Johann came from the Low German noble family von Alvensleben . He was the third child of Ludwig Friedrich von Alvensleben (1762-1820) and his wife Henriette Eleonore, née von Hake (1772-1835). His father was a Prussian cavalry officer in the Gensdarmes regiment and was dismissed after the defeat by the French and the dissolution of the regiment in 1806. In the meantime, his father ran the Peterhagen manor in the Lebus district and was stable master of the Prussian king from 1816 until his death in 1820 .

Military career

Alvernsleben graduated from the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Neuruppin and joined the 1st Guard Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army on April 11, 1824 . By mid-April 1827 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and in 1842/44 he was assigned to the rifle factory in Potsdam . By the beginning of April 1848 Alvensleben rose to become captain and company commander . With promotion to major took place on May 9, 1854, his transfer as second commander of the III. Battalions in the 3rd Guards Landwehr Regiment to Polish Lissa . From April 14, 1857, he was employed as a commander of the 1st Battalion in the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . Under aggregation of the regiment Alvensleben end of March 1859 was commander of the Prussian contingent in Frankfurt and was promoted to mid-October 1861 , Colonel . After he was released from his position on March 13, 1862, Alvensleben was appointed commander of the 2nd Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 15 on April 3, 1862 . At its head he took part in the battle of Missunde and the transition to Alsen in 1864 during the war against Denmark . In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III in mid-August 1864 . Class with swords and in February 1865 with the Order of the Iron Crown II. Class with war decorations. For health reasons, Alvensleben was put up for disposal on October 11, 1864 with the character of major general and the statutory pension .

Alvensleben married Elisabeth Amalie von Bassewitz (1818–1890) from the house of Halle on October 23, 1840 in Potsdam . The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Luise Karoline (* 1842) ⚭ Bogislav von Gerlach (1822–1874) on Parsow
  • Adolf Friedrich (1846–1866), killed as a second lieutenant in the 1st Guard Regiment on foot near Königgrätz
