Volkan Arslan (born August 29, 1978 in Hanover ) is a former Turkish soccer player.

societies

Volkan played in the first team of Hannover 96 between 1996 and 1999 . During this time he played 34 games for Lower Saxony and scored three goals. He then played one season for Rot-Weiss Essen in the then third-class Regionalliga West / Südwest, before moving to the Turkish first division club Adanaspor in the summer of 2000 , where he was temporarily coached by Joachim Löw . For the club from the south of Turkey, Volkan made a total of 60 games in two years and scored eleven times. As a result, he caught the eye of the sporting leadership of Kocaelispor and this convinced him in 2002 to move to the Sea of Marmara . After only half a year, however, Galatasaray Istanbul became aware of Volkan. He signed a five-year contract with the now seventeen-time Turkish champions and got the number 20. At Galatasaray, Volkan had his most successful time as a professional footballer. In 2005 he won the Turkish Cup with Galatasaray, in 2006 he was Turkish champion and finally made it to the senior national team of Turkey via the traditional Istanbul club. However, Volkan was not a regular at Galatasaray Istanbul in the 2005/06 season and so they separated at the end of the season.

After several short-term positions in Turkish football, he is now playing for third division team Bozüyükspor (status: 2011/12 season).

National team

Volkan Arslan played his first international matches for the U-16 national team of Turkey and took part with this at the U-16 European Championship in Belgium in 1995 . There Turkey failed in the preliminary round to Germany and Spain. After further appearances in the U-17 and U-18 national team, it was more than six years before Volkan could celebrate his debut in the senior national team. On April 30, 2003 he was used for the first time in a 4-0 defeat against the Czech Republic in Teplice. At the Confederations Cup 2003 Volkan completed all five tournament games for the Turkish national team , which finished 3rd at the end of the tournament. His last international match so far was Turkey's 0-1 defeat against Macedonia on June 4, 2006 at the Grotenburg Stadium in Krefeld .

Coaching career

After his active career, Arslan started as a youth coach at Kasımpaşa Istanbul in 2014 . In the summer of 2017 he became assistant coach of Hikmet Karaman at Çaykur Rizespor . From January 2018 to February 2018, Arslan was Sergen Yalçın's assistant coach . Most recently, the former midfielder Ahmet Akcan assisted the third division team Sarıyer SK .
