Özgür Bayer (born April 4, 1979 in Balıkesir , Turkey ) is a Turkish soccer player who also has German citizenship . He prefers to play as a central defender , but can also be used as a right full-back and in the right midfield .

Club career

Özgür Bayer began his career at the lower-class Turkish club Soma Sotesspor before moving to Soma Linyitspor , where he made his professional debut in Lig B against Turgutluspor on May 24, 1997 when he came on for Bahadir Tamsan in the 66th minute has been. After another year without the breakthrough success, he moved to Beylerbeyi SK , but returned after a year and finally became a regular. On October 17, 1999 Bayer scored his first competitive goal in the away game against Ayvalikgücü, with a final score of 0: 1. In the following years Bayer moved to many Turkish clubs. In the 2002/2003 season, Bayer qualified for the UEFA Cup with Denizlispor and even made it to the round of 16, where they failed at the eventual winner FC Porto. Bayer played a total of five international matches with Denizlispor this 2002/2003 season . Bayer has been playing in Bank Asya 1. Lig since 2009 .

For the 2012/13 season he moved to his former club Denizlispor . For Denizlispor he played only three league games in the first half of the 2012/13 season and was otherwise on the bench, so he left the club during the winter break and moved to league rivals Adanaspor .

National team career

Özgür Bayer was nominated for the first time in 2004 for the Turkish A-2 national team . He played his first international match in a friendly against the Japanese national B football team on May 26, 2004, when he was substituted on for Mehmet Yozgatlı in added time. He then played two more games at the Future Cup 2005 against the Polish B national soccer team and the Austrian B national soccer team .

Trivia

  • Özgür attended coaching courses following his playing career. During this period, he was diagnosed with lymph cancer in August 2015 . After seven months of therapy, he was able to get rid of his cancer.
