Because of his large game overview and his targeted interventions to prevent enemy attacks, he was nicknamed Doctor Hüseyin . Since joining the summer of 1989 to Gaziantepspor with HÜSEYIN KALPAR , another Hüseyin in Squad was and he was older, Cakiroglu henceforth was known as the Küçük Hüseyin (dt .: The little Hüseyin) called and dt Kalpar as Büyük Hüseyin (.: The large Hüseyin). He died at the age of 29 of complications from cancer and with his death triggered a great deal of sympathy in the Turkish football industry.

Player career

society

Çakıroğlu was born into a football-loving family in Istanbul and grew up in the Aksaray district . Hüseyin, who had an older and a younger brother, learned how to play football on the football fields of his neighborhood like his two brothers. Like his older brother, Hüseyin started club football in the youth department of Davutpaşa SK in 1972 . Through his performances at Davutpaşa, he quickly drew attention to himself and was also elected to the Istanbul team. The traditional Istanbul club Galatasaray Istanbul reacted first and tried to sign Çakıroğlu at the time. Çakıroğlu rejected this offer in favor of a carefully developed career and instead switched to the 2nd Futbol Ligi for the North Anatolian representative DÇ Karabükspor . At this club he quickly made the leap into the regular formation. Through convincing performances he made it into the transfer list of several top division clubs.

After a three year period at Karabükspor Cakiroglu moved together with his teammate Ahmet Yılmaz in the 1. Lig for by Yılmaz Gökdel supervised promoted Gaziantepspor . At this club, which had a team consisting mostly of young and inexperienced players through the talent sighting of Gökdel, Çakıroğlu quickly succeeded in becoming a regular player. With his team he fought against relegation in his first season and only secured relegation on the last day of the game. In the second first division season Çakıroğlu's team was the surprise team of the 1980/81 season and finished the league in 4th place in the table. At this success Çakıroğlu's influence was particularly emphasized. In the following season, Çakıroğlu increased his performance. With 13 league goals he made a significant contribution to ensuring that his club managed to stay in the league. He became the most successful goalscorer of his team and third on the list of goalscorers of the season . Through these achievements he made it into the Turkish U-21 national team this season . Also in the 1982/83 season Çakıroğlu continued his good form and rose to the senior national team. His club played again against relegation and this time missed relegation and rose to the second division in the summer of 1983. Çakıroğlu negotiated after this relegation with Fenerbahçe Istanbul and agreed a little later with this club. However, it was not approved by Gaziantepspor. Several notables from the city spoke out against a release. Since Çakıroğlu was also doing his military service at this time, he did not receive any clearance from the officer in charge. So he was forced to play another season for Gaziantepspor and ended his military service here. He was also nominated for the senior national team during his second division time with Gaziantepspor.

In the summer of 1984 he moved to Fenerbahçe Istanbul together with his teammate Tuğrul Duru . Here the Yugoslav Todor Veselinović took over from his compatriot Branko Stanković as coach. Under this new coach, Çakıroğlu was immediately accepted into the regular team. At the end of the season, the Turkish championship was won. Over the entire season, the team fought with Beşiktaş for the championship lead. On the third to last game day Çakıroğlu's team met their direct championship rivals away. Both teams went into this encounter tied. At the end of the season, Fenerbahçe, tied with Beşiktaş, ended the season due to the better goal difference as champions. In addition, the titles in the President's Cup and the Navy Cup for the second time in a row were defended this season . Despite the championship won, the club management replaced Veselinović by the Hungarian Kálmán Mészöly . Under this coach, the team met the reigning French champions Girondins Bordeaux in the European Cup of the 1985/86 season . Against this club, which had reigning European champions like Alain Giresse and Patrick Battiston , Jean Tigana in its ranks and was French champion twice in a row, Fenerbahçe was treated as a blatant outsider and the club were given little chance of advancing. At that time, the relationship between Turkey and France was very tense because of the attacks by the Asala terrorist organization . Furthermore, the Turkish teams were eliminated without exception in the European club cup competitions in the first round. In the first game, played on September 1, 1985 in Bordeaux , Fenerbahçe created a big surprise and defeated Girondins 3-2 away. Çakıroğlu, who came on in the 54th minute of the game, scored the winning goal to make it 3-2 and was therefore celebrated as a hero by the Turkish press. In the second leg, Çakıroğlu's team won 0-0 and prevailed against Girondins. This advancement was celebrated as a great success in Turkish football at the time. In the second round, the team met IFK Göteborg . In the first away game, Fenerbahçe lost 4-0.

This season, Çakıroğlu played most games for his club until March and played his last game in the away game against Trabzonspor . Çakıroğlu fell ill with cancer and then fell out of the rest of the season. In September of the same year he died of the consequences of his illness. Although Fenerbahçe knew that Çakıroğlu's illness was hopeless, Çakıroğlu's contract was extended.

National team

Çakıroğlu national team career began in 1982 during his time at Gaziantepspor with a use for the U-21 national team .

A year later he was picked up by Coşkun Özarı , the head coach of the Turkish national team , and was nominated for the international squad during a friendly against Romania . In this game Çakıroğlu also made his international debut.

Until 1986 Çakıroğlu played for both the U-21 from as well as for the A selection of his country.

death

In the first quarter of 1986, Çakıroğlu had a spot removed from the inside of his right leg. After this surgical procedure, cancer spread relatively quickly in Çakıroğlu's body. As a result of his illness, he was unable to continue his career from March 1986 and traveled to Houston for treatment . In Houston, the treatment took up almost all of Çakıroğlu's savings, which is why he was unable to pay his treatment bills a little later. He later returned to Istanbul and continued his treatment there. In order to help his player financially, Fenerbahçe extended Çakıroğlu's contract, despite knowing that Çakıroğlu's condition was hopeless.

Çakıroğlu's body did not respond as expected to the treatment and so he died on October 26, 1986 in the American Hospital of Istanbul Inc. as a result of his illness. He was buried in the Söğütlüçeşme mosque in the Karacaahmet cemetery the next day after the midday prayer . On the anniversary of his death, there is an annual memorial service at his grave.
