Coaching career
Jarabinský's first coaching station was the junior department of Sparta Prague, in which he worked for a total of nine years from 1974 to 1983. His first team in the senior division was 1983/84 Vagónka Poprad in the Slovak group of the two-part 2nd division. With 28 points from 30 games, Vagónka finished eighth. The following season Jarabinský coached Tatran Prešov, with whom he reached twelfth place in the first division. Jarabinský changed clubs again after just one year. In the 1985/86 season he was promoted to the 1st Czechoslovak League with Plastika Nitra .
Subsequently, Jozef Jarabinský left Nitra and returned to Sparta Prague as an assistant coach. For the 1988/89 season he was head coach and was able to defend the Czechoslovak championship with the team. Sparta also won the Czechoslovak Cup. In the game year 1989/90 Sparta was again champions under Jarabinský. Jarabinský's next stop was the Turkish first division team Gençlerbirliği Ankara , whom he led to tenth place. In the 1991/92 season, the Slovak coached the Spanish second division Betis Sevilla . A few months without a job, he replaced Vlastimil Petržela as a coach at Slavia Prague in early October 1992 and became runner-up. After the first half of the 1993/94 season, however, he was replaced himself.
In the following season 1994/95 Jarabinský was coach at Union Cheb , but after the ninth game day, the club separated from him. In the same season, at the end of March 1995, he replaced Jürgen Sundermann as coach at Sparta Prague and led the team to the Czech championship title despite being five points behind Slavia. In December 1995 Jarabinský was dismissed, the team was only fourth after 15 rounds. In 1996 Jarabinský briefly trained Aris Saloniki .
For the next four years Jozef Jarabinský worked in Turkey and coached the teams of MKE Ankaragücü (1996/97), Samsunspor (1997/98), Antalyaspor (1998/99) and Göztepe Izmir (1999/00) for one season each . He returned to the Czech Republic in 2001 and reached sixth place in the Gambrinus League with Baník Ostrava . For the 2002/03 season he was again head coach at Sparta Prague, but had to leave the club during the winter break, although the team was leaders. At the end of October 2004 he returned to the reigning Czech champions in Ostrava , but could not give the team any new impulses. After a year and a half break, he found a new challenge in early 2007 with the Chinese first division club Tianjin Teda . In May 2008, he resigned from his post.
In the summer of 2008 Jarabinský took over in the Turkish Süper Lig Antalyaspor, but was dismissed at the end of October 2008 for lack of success.
