The FK Hvězda Cheb is a Czech football club from the West Bohemian city of Cheb (Eger) . The previous club played a role in Czechoslovakia as an army sports club as a training center for young football players.
history
The club, founded in 1951, rose to the first division in 1979 and was able to hold out there until 1992, when financial problems - the club now had to finance itself - led to relegation. In 1993, through the division of Czechoslovakia, six teams could move up into the new independent league, Union Cheb was fourth in the second league. In the 1993/94 season, the club achieved fourth place in the first division, the best result in the club's history.
Without government support, the association could not survive and in 1996 had to file for bankruptcy. Overall, the club played 13 years in the 1st Czechoslovak League and is 21st in the all-time table after 1945. Three seasons in the 1st Czech League are enough for 22nd place in the all-time table.
In 2001 a successor club called FK Union Cheb was founded in 2001, which rose to the 4th league in 2003, followed by promotion to the 3rd league (ČFL) in 2006.
After the financial end in the 2008/09 season, Union Cheb has been playing in the 5th division (Karlovarsky Kraj Prebor) since summer 2008.
For the 2011/12 season, the club will appear under the new name FK Hvězda Cheb. In addition, a B-team will take part in the game. The club is now playing in the fourth-class Divize A again .
European Cup Statistics
Hvězda Cheb took part in 1979/80 as a second division champion in the generally felt to be insignificant Mitropapokal , four teams played in a group in a return match.
