The Annaberger Erzgebirgsklinikum is a hospital in the Erzgebirgskreis in Saxony and was the central hospital in the former district of Annaberg . The operator is the EKA Erzgebirgsklinikum Annaberg gGmbH .

history

The history of the hospitals in Annaberg and Buchholz goes back to the year 1502, when outside the city walls of Annaberg near the “Wolkensteiner Tor” the hospital “St. Trinitatis “was founded. The St. Trinity Church in Annaberg and the municipal cemetery were later located in the immediate vicinity . The city's plague sufferers were also treated here and later laid out in a crypt under the St. Trinity Church.

In 1849 the inauguration of the new city hospital on "Schlachthofplatz" took place.

In what is now the Buchholz district, the first hospital was set up in the 16th century "at the front mill". The first Buchholz city hospital followed in 1849 and the second city hospital was built on Meisterstrasse in 1899.

From 1914, planning began for a central hospital for what was then the district of Annaberg. On November 11, 1930, after a construction period of 16 months, the “district hospital” was inaugurated on what was then the “Fleischerleithe”.

In 1949 "House B" was added in today's Adam-Ries-Straße and in 1963 the miners 'hospital (the former royal Saxon teachers' seminar) in the street of friendship was added as "House C".

In 1990 the district council decided to build the new hospital at the location of house A, on today's Chemnitzer Strasse. Since then, a modern hospital complex has been built in 10 construction phases. All departments have been brought together centrally at this location, and buildings B and C have been given other uses.

The Erzgebirge Clinic today

The Erzgebirgsklinikum is a standard care hospital . Every year more than 13,500 inpatients are treated and 14,000 outpatients are treated. Around 530 children see the light of day in the Erzgebirgsklinikum every year. An average of 4 outpatient operations are performed daily. The turnover of the gGmbH amounts to 33 million euros.

Over 600 people are currently employed at the Ore Mountains Clinic. These include over 70 doctors (including almost 50 specialists), more than 240 nursing staff and almost 80 medical-technical employees.

The hospital has had an MRI scanner since 2008 .

Trivia

The "House C", the former royal Saxon teachers' seminar in which the maternity ward was housed, is now used as a grammar school, so that some students get their school leaving certificate in the same house in which they were born. The former delivery room is now a biology room .

The Erzgebirgsklinikum hit the headlines in March 2003 when a fire broke out at night in the psychiatric department, which was the last to remain in House C, and two patients - including the one who caused the fire - were killed. There was also considerable damage to the building.
