Engin Baytar (born July 11, 1983 in Bielefeld ) is a German-Turkish soccer player .

Club career

Engin Baytar played in his youth for Arminia Bielefeld , VfB Fichte Bielefeld and FC Gütersloh . He began his professional career with Arminia Bielefeld II. After four years in Bielefeld, Engin moved to Turkey to the third division club Maltepespor . There first division clubs became aware of him. Gençlerbirliği Ankara signed him during the winter break of the 2005/06 season. After that he was one of the regular players in the capital. In the 2008/09 season, Engin Baytar was awarded to Eskişehirspor .

Then he switched to Trabzonspor . Baytar has won his biggest titles so far at Trabzonspor. In the 2009/10 season he won the Turkish Cup with Trabzonspor. In the final against Fenerbahçe Istanbul his team won 3-1, he himself scored the decisive 2-1 and was voted man of the game by Turkish journalists after the game. In his second season at Trabzonspor it came between him and his coach Şenol Güneş to disagreements, which is why Baytar was suspended during the season, but was later allowed to participate in training again.

While preparing for the 2011/12 season, Engin Baytar was again suspended. Şenol Güneş then put him on the transfer list and Galatasaray Istanbul signed the controversial midfielder at the special request of the new coach Fatih Terim . His transfer fee was 1.1 million euros and he signed for two years. At Galatasaray, he surprisingly established himself as a regular player straight away and was named as one of the top performers for the championship won in the 2011/12 season. In the next season, Baytar caused a scandal when he physically attacked referee Cüneyt Çakır in the pre-season Supercup game 2013 and was sent off after a red card. Following this incident, Baytar was banned from the Turkish Football Association's disciplinary committee for eleven games. Despite these developments, Terim stuck to Baytar and spoke out in favor of a contract extension with Baytar. After the end of his suspension, Baytar was unable to match the previous year's performance. He also continued to be very aggressive on the field. After Terim was replaced by Italian coach Roberto Mancini in the fall of 2013 , Baytar was completely ignored in the team planning. So he was loaned to the league rivals Çaykur Rizespor in spring 2014 .

For the 2015/16 season Baytar was signed by the second division side Karşıyaka SK . He was unable to establish himself here, so his contract was terminated prematurely in April 2016 by mutual agreement. For the 2016/17 season, he was hired by third division Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor . After 13 missions he moved again to İstanbulspor . With this club he finished the 2016/17 season as champion of the TFF 2nd Lig and thus rose to the TFF 1st Lig af. After this success he left the club again. In mid-June 2017, Baytar moved to the US fifth division team Malatyaspor USA and scored nine goals in the first four league games of the 2017/18 season.

Baytar made his first game for the Turkish national soccer team on November 17, 2010 against the Netherlands.
