Cevat Güler (born December 3, 1959 in Ordu ) is a Turkish football coach . He briefly stepped onto the limelight on the Turkish football stage when, in 2008, as the interim successor to the fired Karl-Heinz Feldkamp, Galatasaray led Istanbul to the championship title with a winning streak.
Career
After attending school in his native Ordu, he graduated from the Anadoluhisarı Gençlik ve Spor Academy in 1981 . There Güler mainly occupied himself with gymnastics and athletics.
In 1985 he began his coaching career at Küçükköy Kültürspor . In the same year, Cevat moved to Gaziosmanpaşaspor where he held positions in the youth sector between 1985 and 1997.
In 1997 he received the coaching license of the Turkish Football Association . and worked from 1997 to 2000 in the youth area of Beşiktaş Istanbul . 2000 to 2001 he was in the coaching staff of the Istanbul amateur club Kartal Belediyespor. In the 2001/02 seasons Cevat Güler was head coach of the Istanbul third division club Yıldırım Bosnaspor which he led to third place.
With the inauguration of Karl-Heinz Feldkamp to Beinn the 2007/08 season at Galatasaray , where he was in 1993 champion, succeeding the Belgian Eric Gerets Güler was given the post of assistant coach.
Six game days before the end of the season, after a home draw against Gaziantepspor , a club from mid-table, Galatasaray was two points behind defending champion Fenerbahçe , who was trained by the former Brazilian world star Zico - and Galatasaray and Feldkamp parted ways. Cevat Güler became interim coach and won all the remaining games - including a 1-0 win over Fenerbahçe - and was thus still six points ahead of the champions. The 36-year-old veteran Hakan Sükür , who still scored eleven times, the ex-Schalke Brazilian Lincoln Cássio de Souza Soares and the Cameroonian Rigobert Song were among the most famous appearances of the master squad.
In the next season he was assistant coach again under head coach Michael Skibbe , although after his dismissal at the end of February 2009 he did not take over on an interim basis this time, but a new coach was brought in with Bülent Korkmaz . At the end of the season, Guler left the club.
He stepped back into the spotlight after taking over the Azerbaijani first division club Rəvan FK in the capital Baku in June 2012 . From August, after a draw and three defeats, he was looking for a job again.
On April 13, 2013 Orduspor announced that Güler had been hired as the new head trainer. He became the successor of Héctor Cúper , who last lost five consecutive defeats in the Süper Lig. Under Güler, the team expanded this series to ten games and was relegated as the penultimate. Erkan Sözeri tried to get promoted again in the following season, but was only third. In 2014/15 Orduspor qualified for the third division.
