Kubilay Aydın (born December 30, 1975 in Uzunköprü ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper and coach.

Player career

society

Aydın was born in the small town of Uzunköprü in Eastern Thrace and began playing club football in various amateur clubs as a youth. In 1993 he was involved as an amateur player in the training of the professional team at the then third division club Babaeskispor and was part of the squad a little later. On March 21, 1993 he made his professional debut in a league game against Tekirdağspor and played in two other league games until the end of the season. In the next season, he captured the goalkeeper post for the second half of the season and kept it.

Through his achievements he fell on the second division Edirnespor and moved to this club with a professional contract. Here, too, he came to sporadic missions in his first season and only gained a regular place in the second season. So he was discovered for the Turkish U-21 national team and soon after was part of their regular formation.

Through his work in the Turkish U-21 national team, several top division clubs became aware of him. The capital club Gençlerbirliği Ankara reacted the fastest and signed Aydın for the summer of 1996. At this club he quickly gained a regular place and kept it for almost the entire season.

Here he became one of the main players in one of the most legendary games in Turkish football history. In the cup match between Gençlerbirligi Ankara and Galatasaray Istanbul , the regular playing time ended 1: 1. After the result did not change in extra time, the match was decided by penalty shoot-out . This penalty shootout developed into one of the longest in football history. For a long time it was possible to hit all the penalty takers and the two goalkeepers Aydın and Hayrettin Demirbaş were unable to save a penalty. So the penalty shootout developed to a 16:16. Then İlyas Kahraman took his team's 17th penalty and missed. After Osman Coşkun subsequently converted for Gençlerbirligi, Galatasaray was eliminated. Both goalkeepers justified themselves by saying that the goalkeeper of the other team could not save a penalty either. In the second season with the capital city Aydın completed 15 league games and was no longer seeded. Rather, he lost his regular place to Hasan Sönmez , recaptured it and lost it again to Sönmez.

With the expiry of his contract with Gençlerbirligi, he left this club and hired the second division Konyaspor . At this club he played three years, where he lost his initial place and was only a substitute goalkeeper at the end. The following seasons he played almost exclusively with various second and third division clubs. In the third division season 2006/07 he was runner-up in the TFF 2nd Lig with Kartalspor and was promoted to the TFF 1st Lig . Nevertheless, he left this club at the end of the season and hired the third division club Küçükköyspor . He spent the 2008/09 season with this club and ended his football career at the end of the season.

National team

Aydın was nominated for the first time for the Turkish U-21 national team while at Edirnespor and was one of the regularly nominated players for the following two years. He completed a total of seven U-21 internationals.

With the Olympic selection of the Turkish national team, he took part in the Mediterranean Games in 1997 and won the silver medal.

Coaching career

In the summer he started to work as a goalkeeper coach for fourth division club Fatih Karagümrük SK .
