Faruk Yiğit (born April 15, 1966 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Due to his many years of work for Kocaelispor , he is associated with this association. With the Turkish national team he took part in the European Championship in 1996 , but was not used during this tournament. In addition to his footballing achievements, he was particularly noticeable during his active time due to his casual demeanor and his appearance, which was unusual for the time. He always wore shoulder-length hair and a full beard. He caused a stir towards the end of his playing career when he smoked on the bench before being substituted on during his time at Orhangazi Gençlerbirliği .
Player career
society
Yiğit was born in the Black Sea city of Trabzon in 1966 and moved with his family to the western Turkish province of Bursa as a child . Here his family settled near the district town of Orhangazi . In this area he learned to play football in the youth departments of various amateur clubs.
At the end of the 1980s, he moved to the then third division club Yalovaspor . With this club he celebrated the championship of the 3rd Lig at the end of the 1989/90 season and thus the direct promotion to the 2nd Lig . Yiğit made a significant contribution to this success with his goals and became one of the league's shooting stars.
For the 1990/91 season he moved to the then first division team Boluspor . Here he immediately established himself in the starting line-up and with his 14 goals in 27 league games was one of the most successful goal-scorers of the season and also became a national player. In his second season at Boluspor he lagged behind his previous season's performances. His club failed to stay up at the end of the season.
After the descent Boluspors Yiğit stayed in the highest Turkish league, the 1st Lig , and moved to the promoted Kocaelispor . Kocaelispor became the surprise team of the season and became autumn champions of the 1992/93 season . At the end of the season they gambled away the lead in the table, but reached 4th place in the table, the best first division placement in the club's history. Yiğit did not play in the regular team this season, but came on regularly as a substitute. His breakthrough at Kocaelispor came in the 1994/95 season , when he became the team's most successful goalscorer with 12 league goals. In the 1995/96 season he formed with Saffet Sancaklı , Roman Dabrowski and John Moshoeu one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the league and reached fifth place in the table, the second best first division placement in the club's history. Yiğit was nominated again for the Turkish national team due to his convincing performances by national coach Fatih Terim and took part with this in the 1996 European Football Championship . The 1996/97 season they finished 7th in the league, but reached the final in the Turkish Football Cup for the first time in the club's history. In the cup final, which was played back and forth at the time, the first away game ended 1: 1 against Trabzonspor . The second leg in front of a home crowd was won 1-0 and achieved the first cup win in the club's history. Yiğit had made a significant contribution to reaching the finals and winning the cup with his services.
After he had spent the first half of the 1997/98 season at Kocaelispor, he moved to Istanbul's traditional club Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the winter break . Here he made it into the starting line-up straight away and played all the games in the second half of the season. His team led the table for a long time and at the end of the season awarded the championship to arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul . For the new season, the German coach Joachim Löw was introduced as the new Fenerbahçe coach. Under this coach, Yiğit lost his regular place, but came as a substitute to 16 league appearances. After the championship was awarded to Galatasaray under Löw Fenerbahçe, this was replaced for the 1999/00 season by the legendary Fenerbahçes, Rıdvan Dilmen . Under Dilmen Yiğit only played the first two games of the season. For the second half of this season he was loaned to the second division Diyarbakırspor until the end of the season. Returned to Fenerbahçe in the summer of 2000, he stayed without a game for another season in the squad and then left the club.
In 2001 he moved to Yalovaspor and after a few days to the amateur club in his hometown, Orhangazi Gençlerbirliği . For this club he played four seasons and ended his playing career in summer 2005.
In the spring of 2013 he started playing football for the amateur club Yalova Demirspor and celebrated his comeback at the age of 47.
National team
Due to his shown performances at Boluspor , Yiğit was nominated by the then national coach Sepp Piontek as part of a test match against Yugoslavia in the squad of the Turkish national team . In this game on February 27, 1991, he also made his international debut. The following year, Yiğit was used three more times by Piontek in international matches.
After Yiğit was not nominated for the national team for four years, he recommended himself through his performances at Kocaelispor for the national team. The new national coach Fatih Terim nominated him again for the national team. In the friendly against the Ukrainian national team , he also scored his first and only international goal.
With the Turkish national team he took part in the European Championship in 1996 , but was not used during this tournament. After this tournament Terim left the national team and was replaced by Mustafa Denizli . Denizli nominated Yiğit for a test match one last time for the national team.
