Rıdvan Dilmen (born August 15, 1962 in Nazilli , Aydın Province ) is a former Turkish football player , football coach and current football expert at the Turkish television station NTV .

Player career

society

Rıdvan Dilmen played for Sümerspor during his youth and also became a professional football player here in 1977. Before the 1979/80 season, Dilmen completed several days of professional training with the second division club Denizlispor . At the club, where his older brother was also working as a professional at the time, the young Rıdvan was found to be too skinny and he was not obliged. Instead, Dilmen moved to the then amateur club Muğlaspor . With this club, the winger from the amateur league managed to move up to the 2nd Turkish league . His coach at the time, Kemal Dirikan , said about Dilmen: "He has the intelligence as the devil"; since then he has been nicknamed "Şeytan Rıdvan" (German: Rıdvan the devil). After two seasons, Dilmen left Muğlaspor and moved to the Süper Lig to Boluspor .

Dilmen played for Boluspor for three years. During his time at Boluspor, Dilmen made his debut for the Turkish national football team . In 1983 he went to league rivals Sarıyer SK . At Sarıyerspor he is one of the leading players. After four seasons Rıdvan Dilmen moved to the traditional club Fenerbahçe Istanbul .

In the 1988/89 season Dilmen was the first and only time Turkish football champion. He himself scored the second most goals with 19 goals together with his teammate Hasan Vezir . Only his team-mate Aykut Kocaman , striker, was even more successful with 29 goals. For Dilmen it was the high point of his playing career. In the 1989/90 season Dilmen suffered a cruciate ligament rupture during a game against Trabzonspor . From then on, his career was marked by protracted injuries. Dilmen usually returned early from his injury break, although the doctors forbade him to do so. In his final years, Dilmen played fewer than ten games per season.

In 1994, his contract was terminated at his own request. On January 31, 1996 Rıdvan Dilmen ended his career with a farewell game for good. With his quick acceleration and good ball control, Dilmen was one of the most important midfielders in Turkey in the 1980s.

Dilmen never saw the red card throughout his career .

National team

Dilmen made his debut for Turkey on September 6, 1984 against the Soviet Union . He scored his first international goal in a 3-1 win against Greece on September 21, 1988. Rıdvan Dilmen played the last time for the Turkish national football team on September 28, 1992 against San Marino.

Coaching career

In the 1996/97 season Dilmen was at the request of Ali Şen sports director at Fenerbahçe Istanbul , but the employment relationship was terminated at the end of the season. The former midfielder then worked as a TV expert. In 1998 he took over the coaching position at the second division club Vanspor . When he took office, the team was bottom of the table with 0 points. He still managed to move up to the first division with his team in the same season . Fenerbahçe Istanbul signed his former protégé as a coach at the beginning of the 1999/2000 season. Although the team got off to a good start in the Süper Lig, Dilmen resigned after an early break in the second round of the UEFA Cup against MTK Budapest FC .

Later Rıdvan Dilmen worked at Altay İzmir , Adanaspor and Karşıyaka SK , but without success.

Rıdvan Dilmen is currently employed by the Turkish news channel NTV as a football expert. For several years he has been an expert on the program % 100 Futbol (German: 100 percent football). He is a co-commentator at the games of the Turkish national soccer team. He has also been a columnist for the daily Sabah since August 2010 .

As a co-commentator, Dilmen has often proven his football tactical intelligence. In many situations, the former midfielder suspects that a goal could be scored in the next few seconds. Mostly with the slogan Gol olur (German: a goal could fall). As a result, Rıdvam Dilmen got a cameo in the film AROG and shot a commercial for shaver manufacturer Gillette with David Beckham . Both in the film and in the commercials, he says his well-known phrase Gol olur .
