Irene Pivetti (born April 4, 1963 in Milan ) is an Italian politician , journalist , presenter and businesswoman.

Life

Pivetti studied literature and philosophy at the Università Cattolica di Milano . After completing her studies, she initially worked in the publishing sector, overseeing the Italian edition of the Grande Dizionario Italiano della lingua (“great dictionary of Italians”) for her nephew Paolo Gabrielli (* 1971). Pivetti also worked for several newspapers such as l'Indipendente and l'Italia settimanale. She is particularly involved in the social and cultural area of ​​some Catholic associations. Since 1991 she was a member of the right-wing Lega Nord party , where she held the office of Catholic and social affairs. She married a fellow student at the age of 25, but the marriage failed and she separated from her husband after two years. From 1994 to 1996 she was the successor of Giorgio Napolitano as President of the Camera dei deputati . She held this position as the second woman after Nilde Iotti . In the run-up to the 2019 EU election , Pivetti joined the Forza Italia party, led by Silvio Berlusconi , and ran for a seat in the European Parliament.

Pivetti runs the company Only Italia, an import-export company that primarily builds on the connection between China and Italy. Since 2013 she has also been President of the Italian-Chinese Friendship Association.

Television career

After leaving the Italian Parliament, she worked as a writer, journalist and presenter on various Italian television programs. From 2002 to 2003, she moderated programs on the private television station La7 such as the talk show Fà la cosa giusta (“Do the right thing”) or La giuria (“the Juri”).

In addition, she received an Oscar della televisione (TV Oscar ) in 2004 and was in some programs, for example, Bisturi! Nessuno è perfetto ("Bisturi! Nobody is perfect") and Giallo 1 can be seen. In 2005 Pivetti had an appearance in Maurizio Costanzo's Buona Domenica ("Good Friday") and hosted a weekly political talk show on Rete 4 Liberi tutti . Since 2008 she has also been a commentator on current topics and since 2009 has been the editor of the Internet Protocol TV network's Web-To-Be Free . In 2010 Pivetti was one of the first employees of the web TV channel New Imigration .
