Laura Boldrini (born April 28, 1961 in Macerata ) is an Italian journalist and politician .

Life

Boldrini studied law at La Sapienza University in Rome and then worked as a journalist for the Italian public broadcaster RAI . In 1989 she started working for the United Nations (UNO) , initially at the World Food Organization (FAO) , from 1993 to 1998 at the World Food Program (WFP) and from 1998 to 2012 at the Refugee Commissioner (UNHCR) . In 2004 she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic .

In the 2013 parliamentary elections for the 17th legislative period, Boldrini moved into the Italian Chamber of Deputies as a candidate for the Sinistra Ecologia Libertà party . On March 16, 2013 she was elected President of the Chamber of Deputies. His successor in this office has been Roberto Fico ( M5S ) since March 24, 2018 .
