Andrés José Túñez Arceo (born March 15, 1987 in Caracas , Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan football player on the position of central defender who has been in the squad of the Thai first division club Buriram United since 2014 . He has also been a Venezuelan national football player several times since 2011 .

Club career

Career start in Galicia

Andrés José Túñez Arceo was born in 1987 as the son of José "Pepe" Túñez and Margarita Arceo, two Spanish immigrants from Galicia , in the Venezuelan capital Caracas, where he also spent the first years of his life. When he was seven years old, the family moved back to their original homeland, where they settled in Bertamiráns , the seat of the Spanish fourth division club Bertamiráns FC , in the autonomous Galician community of Ames . Túñez began his career as a football player in 1994 in the school football team of the Colegio de La Salle in Santiago de Compostela , before he was accepted into the youth field with the attached football school of the amateur club Rosalia de Castro in 1997 . After he belonged to the amateur club until 2002, he joined the youth of the former Galician professional club SD Compostela . There he was used in various youth teams before he joined his long-admired club Celta Vigo in 2004 , for which he was henceforth used in the youth team.

After a few years in youth, he came in the 2006/07 season for the first time for the reserve team of Celta Vigo in the four-track third - highest soccer league in Spain . He made his debut on November 18, 2006 in a 2-2 draw in a home game against AD Alcorcón , when he came under Rafael Sáez in the 23rd minute for Julio Rodríguez Martínez on the lawn. After another brief assignment a week later, he was deployed as a regular in the reserve's defensive row from the end of January 2007 and made a total of nine third division appearances by the end of the season, in which he himself remained goalless and barely managed to stay up with the team. In the following season 2007/08 he was under the new coach Alejandro Menéndez as a regular in the third division in use, where he remained goalless in 23 appearances, but was cautioned nine times with a yellow card . However, he was only in the team until the 25th round and fell out of his last season on February 16, 2008 due to injury until the end of the season, when the team was in eighth place in the table.

In the 2008/09 season , the team played for a long time to participate in the promotion play-offs, but ranked fifth at the end of the season. The 1.87 m tall central defender also missed the first rounds of the new season due to his injury and only made his debut in the ninth round. This season, the left-footed man under Menéndez, who at the end of the previous season also briefly directed the fortunes of the professional team in the second-rate Segunda División , continued to play as a regular in the defensive line of the club's B team. This time he came to 25 third division appearances, where he again failed to score, as well as five yellow cards, two of which were yellow-red . In 2009/10 Túñez was particularly noticeable in the country's third-highest division because of his toughness; so he was used up to the 19th round in 16 league games and received ten yellow and one yellow-red card. With the turn of the year he made the leap to the professional team of Celta Vigo, whose supporter he has been since his earliest childhood. However, he made his professional debut in the third round of the Copa del Rey 2009/10 on October 7, 2009 in a 3-1 win over FC Girona , when he was on the lawn for the full duration of the game and shortly before the final whistle with the yellow card was warned. In the further course of the cup competition, the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual finalists Atlético Madrid with a total score of 1: 2. Andrés Túñez played for the professional team in a total of seven cup games, each over the full playing time.

Breakthrough among the professionals at Celta Vigo

After he sat on the substitute bench of the professional team for the first time at the end of 2009 and did so in another league game at the beginning of 2010, he made his professional league debut on January 16, 2010 in a 0-1 home defeat against Real Sociedad as he was used by coach Eusebio for the full 90 minutes. As for the reserve team, which ended the season in ninth place in the table, Túñez was also used for the professionals in 16 league games, where he was on the lawn for the full game in all but one and five yellow cards in this process got. He succeeded on May 30, 2010 in a 1: 4 away defeat against Real Murcia also his first goal in men's football. With the team he finished the 2009/10 season in the densely staggered final table in 12th place. The main reason for his move to the professional team was the departure of the previous central defender Jordi to Rubin Kazan in February 2010.

From the 2010/11 season he was used exclusively for the professionals, with the new coach Paco Herrera still standing on the lawn for the full 90 minutes in the first round match against the reserve team of FC Barcelona . After that, the defender was alternately not in the squad or sat on the bench without a mission before he came to a 20-minute short appearance against Deportivo Xerez in the 20th round . Then he was either not in the squad in the following games or sat on the reserve bench without any action before waiting exclusively on the substitute bench for a league appearance between rounds 29 and 37. This finally happened from the 38th round of the current season, where he was used in all five of the last game rounds over the full match duration. In the 2-2 home draw against FC Elche in the 40th round, he scored his second professional league goal in minute 32. Due to the comfortable table position in sixth place in the final, he took the team to the Ascension Play-Offs in part, left there but still in the semifinals to eventual newly promoted FC Granada from. Andrés Túñez was used for the full game in the 1-0 win in the first leg and was only on the bench in the penalty defeat in the second leg.

Then he started with the team in the extremely successful 2011/12 season , in which he was again unable to assert himself as a regular in the first third of the season. So he was only used in three league games up to the 15th round, was only on the bench in a few other games or was not even in the professional squad due to his first international appearances. From round 16, Andrés Túñez became a regular in the professional team of Celta Vigo and made 29 league appearances by the end of the season, in which he scored a total of one goal, the winning goal in the 1-0 away win over Girona on January 28, 2011. His toughness in duels also decreased significantly this season, with the referee warning him with yellow cards only four times. After 42 rounds, Celta Vigo ranked second in the table with 85 points and six points behind the third division promoted from the previous season, Deportivo La Coruña, and thus rose directly to the Spanish first class with the club from A Coruña . In the 2011/12 Copa del Rey , the team was eliminated from the current tournament in the fourth round; Túñez was there in the return leg as a substitute, but was not used.

First class with Celta Vigo and a rental station in Israel

Túñez also completed the 2012/13 season under Paco Herrera as a core player in central defense, where he was occasionally used on the left side of defense. After he only played four games between round 19 and 30 and there was also a change of coach, Herrera was replaced by Abel Resino , he was back as a full-fledged regular player from the 31st round, with the exception of the last two championship games, which he denied as a right defender, played in his traditional position. He finished the season with his team with 37 points, just before a relegation place, in 17th place in the table. In the Copa del Rey 2012/13 , the Venezuelan was used in three different games and was eliminated from the current tournament in the round of 16 against the eventual finalist Real Madrid . After this season in the Spanish first class, the change of the Venezuelan international to the Ligat ha'Al at Beitar Jerusalem was announced in September 2013 .

He came in the 2013/14 season under Eli Cohen , who only replaced his namesake ten years older as coach in January of the same year , on September 21, 2013 in the 0-1 home defeat against Hapoel Haifa for his team debut, whereby he played over 90 minutes. After that, he worked exclusively as a regular for the Israeli club, also under interim coach David Amsalem and his successor Ronny Levy , who held his office until May 10, 2014, before he was also replaced. Even before Beitar Jerusalem had to go into the relegation round in ninth place at the end of the season, the loan agreement between Túñez, Celta Vigo and Beitar Jerusalem was terminated by mutual agreement. In the Israeli Cup of the 2013/14 season , he made it to the quarter-finals, where the team was eliminated with 0-2 against Hapoel Ironi Kirjat Schmona .

Change to Thailand

After his expiring contract at Celta Vigo was not extended, he came to Thailand through his former coach at the Celta Vigo reserves, Alejandro Menéndez , where he was currently looking after the reigning champions Buriram United . For the club from the province of Buri Ram , he completed 19 league games in 2014 , in which he scored twice. With the team he was able to prevail in the final classification after games under interim coach Božidar Bandović and the later coach Alexandre Gama against the competition and was again champion of the highest Thai football league with three points ahead of second-placed Chonburi FC . In the Thai FA Cup of 2014 he was eliminated with the team in the fourth round against the eventual cup winners FC Bangkok Glass . In the Thai League Cup , however, he was more successful and made it with the team in the League Cup 2014 to the final in the National Stadium in Bangkok , where they lost 2-0 to BEC-Tero Sasana after goals from Daiki Iwamasa and Georgie Welcome .

Due to the championship title, the team qualified for the group stage of the 2015 AFC Champions League , with the Venezuelan native playing in all six group games of his team over the full playing time. With the team he reached as many points as the first place in Group F Gamba Osaka and the runner-up Seongnam FC , but did not get any further due to the poorer direct comparison with the two and was again eliminated from the current tournament early. During the tournament, he scored a goal after submission by Suchao Nuchnum in the last game, a 5-0 win over Guangzhou R&F . Before that, he won the Kor Royal Cup with the team for the third year in a row after a goal by the Brazilian Diogo Luis Santo against Muangthong United . In the course of the Thai Premier League 2015 , Andrés Túñez and Buriram United are currently (as of August 15, 2015) unbeaten in first place in the table after 20 games, and so far (as of August 15, 2015) he has made twelve appearances and two Has brought goals. In the 2015 League Cup , he is currently ranked with the team (as of August 15, 2015) in the quarter-final second leg, which will be played on September 16, 2015. In the 2015 Thai Cup , the team just made it to the quarter-finals (as of August 15, 2015). Behind Suchao Nuchnum, Túñez appears as the team's vice-captain; Siwarak Tedsungnoen is the third captain of the team .

In May 2020 he was signed by first division promoted BG Pathum United FC from Pathum Thani .

National team career

Andrés Túñez in training with the Venezuelan national soccer team (2011)

Túñez made his first appearance in the Venezuelan national team in 2011, after local Venezuelan newspapers reported in early 2010 that he might be called up to the national squad. He finally made his debut on September 2, 2011 under César Farías in a 1-0 defeat by Argentina , when he came on the pitch for his Venezuelan-Spanish teammate Fernando Amorebieta shortly before the end of the game . In his second appearance, a 2-1 win over Guinea , he was on the field for the first time five days later for the full length of the game. After that, Andrés Túñez sat on the bench in his home country in the second and third qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup , but was not used and had to admit defeat to the aforementioned Amorebieta and Oswaldo Vizcarrondo in the central defensive position.

In the following year, 2012, the left-footed player made further international appearances for Venezuela, including a brief appearance in a friendly against Spain in February and then in August in a 1-1 draw against Japan for the full 90 minutes stood in the field. On the seventh and eighth day of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualification, he was again used as a central defender over the full game against Peru and Paraguay . After another friendly against Nigeria in mid-November 2012, he played two more World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Colombia on matchdays 11 and 12 in March 2013 . In June 2013, Túñez also played in the World Cup qualifying game against Uruguay and was then in a friendship game in August and September and in two World Cup qualifying games on the bench in his home country.

It then took almost two years before the Venezuelan-Spanish dual citizen was used again in an international match. After the short-term coach Manuel Plasencia had already been refueled after Farías' departure , he was back on the bench in a 2-1 loss to Jamaica under Noel Sanvicente on March 27, 2015 and was used in the following friendly international match against Peru. In April and May 2015 he was selected by national coach Sanvicente in an early 30-man squad for the Copa America 2015 and was then also in the final 23-man squad in his home country . During the tournament, which the team ended prematurely as group D bottom, he was in all three games of his team on the field.
