Abel Resino Gómez (born February 2, 1960 in Velada , Comarca Talavera de la Reina , province of Toledo ) is a Spanish soccer coach and former professional soccer player, who during his active time as a goalkeeper kept his "box" "clean" for the longest time in the world.

Before his work as head coach, the former goalkeeper Abel Resino played for Atlético Madrid in the Primera División .

Player career

His stations

At the beginning of the 1980s Abel Resino found his way to the second team of Atlético Madrid via the two amateur clubs CD Toledo and CD Ciempozuelos , for which he played a total of four years in the Segunda División , as unlike in Germany in Spain also amateur teams in the 2nd . Allowed to play league.

When Atlético B went down in the 1985/86 season without a song, Abel Resino was promoted to the professional team of the "Rojiblancos". In the following nine years he ran in a total of 243 games for the "Colchoneros" before he ended his career as a "part-time worker" at the age of 36 in 1995/96 with league rivals Rayo Vallecano .

World record

Abel Resino holds the world record with 1275 minutes in a row without conceding a goal. Only Luis Enrique from Sporting Gijón was able to overcome the Atlético goalkeeper on March 19, 1991.

Coaching career

In his first season as head coach, he was almost promoted directly, but a two-point deficit compared to his later club UD Levante ruined Ciudad's dreams of promotion. Then Resino left the club and was replaced by José Luis Oltra .

After a short break from the coaching business, Abel Resino took over the first division club UD Levante from his predecessor Juan Ramón López Caro in January 2007 . There he was able to confidently achieve relegation in the second half of the season (including a 1-0 away at Real Madrid and a 4-2 in the derby against their big neighbors Valencia CF ). On the 8th match day of the 2007/08 season, however, he had to go again, as his overaged team only got one point in the first eight games of the season. He was replaced by the Italian Gianni De Biasi .

In the summer of 2008 Abel Resino was the coach of the Spanish second division CD Castellón . In February 2009 he was signed by his former club Atlético Madrid , where he was released in October of the same year. From December 2010 on he was the head coach of Real Valladolid in the Segunda División and qualified with the club in the 2010/11 season for the promotion playoffs, in which they were eliminated against FC Elche . Resino then left the club at the end of the season.

On January 22, 2012 he was signed by the first division promoted FC Granada . He saved the club in the 2011/12 season from relegation, but resigned from his post at the end of the season.

On February 18, 2013 Resino was signed by the relegation-threatened club Celta Vigo . Although he just kept the class with Celta at the end of the 2012/13 season , Resino's contract was terminated in June 2013 due to differences with the club's management. He also stayed at FC Granada for a short time in 2015. Obliged on January 19, 2015, the separation took place after only a few months on May 1.

Game philosophy

Although he was in goal as a player, Abel Resino lets his teams play very aggressively and with a far advanced defense, which often seems very risky.
