The Urdok ridge is a mountain ridge up to 7426 m high which is the continuation of the southeast ridge of the Hidden Peak (Gasherbrum I).

On his Gratrücken two main chains of the encounter Karakorum together. The Urdok Ridge is separated from the Hidden Peak by the southeastern Gasherbrum La. On this ridge are initially (from north to south) the Urdok I ( 7250  m , also known as Urdok Kangri I) and an unnamed summit ( 7136  m ) before the ridge in the Abruzzi Saddle ( 6782  m ) reaches its lowest point. The ridge continues to rise over Urdok II ( 7082  m ) and Urdok III ( 6950  m ) to Sia Kangri . The Abruzzi Saddle is considered to be the border between the Gasherbrum group and the Sia Kangri massif. Therefore it was suggested to designate the Urdok II as Sia Kangri Nord .

Surname

Günter Oskar Dyhrenfurth explored the access possibilities of the Hidden Peak in 1934 within the framework of the International Himalaya Organization (IHE), which he directed . He named the ridge following its southeast ridge Urdok ridge, because it breaks off to the northeast “with huge, 2500  m high walls towards the Urdok glacier ”. The name of this glacier on the Chinese side of the Karakoram was already known.

Ascent history

Little is known about the ascents of the mountains. The Urdok I was climbed for the first time in 1975 by an Austrian expedition with Hanns Schell . This expedition actually had the Hidden Peak as its destination, but made a detour beforehand and climbed this secondary peak. The team also included Hanns Schell's wife, Liselotte, Robert Schauer , Helmut Prevedel, Herbert Zefferer and Karl Hub. The way led them on the normal route in the ascent to Hidden Peak to Camp 3 and then on to Urdok I. A few days later Schell, Zefferer and Schauer were on the summit of Hidden Peak (third ascent). The other peaks are probably not yet climbed.
